Church of San Vicente Mártir Monument · Pelayos del Arroyo, Alfoz de Segovia, Segovia The church of San Vicente Mártir, in Pelayos del Arroyo, is a Catholic temple in rural Romanesque style whose construction dates back to the 12th-13th centuries. It preserves capitals carved with birds with women's heads and monstrous animals, a Baroque altarpiece and remains of mural paintings, and a bell gable added above the original apse that betrays the alterations undergone over the centuries. On 16 January 1981 it was declared a historic-artistic monument of national character (an earlier heritage-protection category, predecessor of the Bien de Interés Cultural) by a royal decree that specifically highlighted its Romanesque mural paintings and its arcades with exquisite capitals; since then it has held the status of Bien de Interés Cultural.
