The birth of Ramón Ruiz Alonso Historical milestone · Villaflores, Tierra de Peñaranda, Salamanca Image of Villaflores, not of the place itself. In 1903 Ramón Ruiz Alonso was born in the village, a far-right politician whose figure went down in history for his direct involvement in the arrest and subsequent murder of the poet Federico García Lorca in 1936. Born on 14 November, a typographer by trade, he was a deputy in the Cortes during the Second Republic as a prominent member of the CEDA; his detractors nicknamed him “el obrero amaestrado”. During his time in Granada he had poor relations with the left, working-class sectors and even the local leaders of the Granada Falange themselves. After the outbreak of the civil war he joined the insurgent forces and took part in repression efforts. He died in 1978. 1903 Photo: Hovallef (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Villaflores
