Declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico (Spain's heritage designation in force between 1931 and 1985) on 19 December 1969, the parish church presides over a village resettled with people from the city of Palencia, from which it took its name, and later ceded to the Salamanca bishopric as a seigneury.
