The murder of Casto Prieto Carrasco Historical milestone · La Orbada, La Armuña, Salamanca Image of La Orbada, not of the place itself. On the hillside of this town, in the early hours between 28 and 29 July 1936, Casto Prieto Carrasco (Sequeros, 1886 - La Orbada, 29 July 1936) was murdered extrajudicially: a doctor, professor of Anatomy at the University of Salamanca and the leading figure of Salamancan republicanism during the Second Republic. He was mayor of Salamanca from December 1931 to October 1934 and again between February and July 1936, promoting the reform of municipal finances, the planned urban development of the city and the fight against unemployment through public works and the building of schools; he was murdered by the rebels for opposing the coup d'état, together with the socialist deputy José Andrés y Manso, in a ditch beside the Valladolid road. madrugada del 28 al 29 de julio de 1936 Photo: Bernardo Baggio (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in La Orbada
