The hillfort of Irueña Nature · Fuenteguinaldo, Ciudad Rodrigo, Salamanca Image of Fuenteguinaldo, not of the place itself. On the outskirts of the village survive the remains of a hillfort of Vettone origin, built in the second half of the Iron Age, around the 6th and 5th centuries BC, and later Romanised, with its walls and layout still legible on the ground. It lies on the left bank of the river Águeda, near its confluence with the Rolloso stream, some five kilometres from the village, in the comarca of Campo de Robledo. Access is from the top of the stream's dam along a dirt track, and the site, still in the process of consolidation and enhancement, retains abundant undergrowth that makes it hard to take in as a whole. It is one of the sites that explain the ancient settlement of the area before the border. Photo: Fundación Joaquín Díaz (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Fuenteguinaldo
