Ángel Mateos Museum of Doñinos Monument · Doñinos de Salamanca, Campo de Salamanca, Salamanca A space devoted to the work of the Salamancan sculptor Ángel Mateos Bernal (Villavieja de Yeltes, 1931), considered the only sculptor to have developed his entire body of work in concrete, a material that gives his pieces a strongly monumental and architectural character; in 2008 he received the Castile and León Arts Prize. The building itself, a habitable sculpture, was built between 1997 and 1999 using 420 cubic metres of concrete, in a farming village seven kilometres from Salamanca on the banks of the Tormes. Opened in 2002 as the Museum of Concrete, it reopened in 2019 under its current name, and brings together more than 170 works by the artist made between the 1970s and the 1990s, arranged in three rooms tracing his evolution from expressionism to minimalism.
