Church of Santiago Apóstol de Ledigos Monument · Ledigos, Vega-Valdavia, Palencia The church of Santiago in Ledigos stands on a hill on the Camino de Santiago from which the next town on the route, Terradillos de los Templarios, can be seen. Doña Urraca gave Ledigos to Santiago Apóstol in 1028, placing it under the Chapter of the Compostela Cathedral, and in the 13th century a church was built here in his honour, remodelled around the 17th century; in the 20th century its original bell tower collapsed and was replaced by the present brick bell-gable. It is a single-nave building covered by a groin vault that houses four altarpieces, from the 16th to the 18th century, among them a rococo one in the presbytery with sculptures from different periods. It is, moreover, the only church on the whole Camino that depicts Santiago in his three guises: Apóstol, Peregrino and Matamoros. Photo: Rodelar (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Ledigos
