Salinas de Pisuerga Village · Salinas de Pisuerga, Montaña Palentina, Palencia Salinas de Pisuerga, formerly Salinas del Río Pisuerga, is a municipality of 348 inhabitants at 947 metres above sea level, in the Montaña Palentina area. It is made up of the Abajo, Enmedio and la Calleja quarters, together with the hamlets of Monasterio, Renedo de Zalima and San Mamés de Zalima. A pre-Roman hillfort attributed to the Cantabri has been documented on its land. It preserves a medieval bridge and the church of San Pelayo, next to the Quintanahernando hermitage. It has a station on the narrow-gauge La Robla railway, which links León with Bilbao, opened in 1894. It traditionally lived off livestock grazing, now in decline. Its festivals are San Pelayo, on 26 June, and San Isidro Labrador, on 15 May. Photo: Uviein (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Salinas de Pisuerga
