Church of San Juan Bautista de Fresno del Río

The parish church of Fresno del Río, in the comarca of the Montaña Palentina, beside the river Carrión, where the Castilian plateau ends. Built of rubblework and ashlar, it has a single nave covered by a barrel vault with lunettes and a shallow dome on pendentives over the transept, with a round-arched portal on the Epistle side preceded by a porch. The presbytery preserves an altarpiece from the early 17th century, with carvings of San Antonio de Padua and a crucifix of the same period.
