Monastery of Santa María de Trianos Monument · Villamol, Sahagún, León The ruins of the monastery of Santa María de Trianos stand in the deserted hamlet of Trianos, between the villages of Villapeceñil and Villamol, in the fertile flood plain of the río Cea, a little more than five kilometres north of Sahagún. It was entrusted from the outset to the modest order of the Augustinian Canons Regular, and its closeness to the monastery of San Benito de Sahagún always relegated it to a secondary role in the monastic landscape of the area. The scant surviving references to it describe a modest convent, but one placed directly under the patronage of the kings of León and the Holy See; its remains are today the most notable vestige of the network of religious houses that surrounded the great abbey of Sahagún.
