Torre Cerredo Monument · Posada de Valdeón, La Montaña de Riaño, León At 2650 metres it is the highest peak in Asturias, in Castile and León and in the whole Cantabrian range, and it marks the boundary between the two regions within the Central Massif of the Picos de Europa, also called the Urrieles massif. From its summit, with a drop of more than 2200 metres above the río Cares, it commands views of the Western Massif and the gullies that run down to the Cares gorge. It was first climbed on 30 July 1892 by Aymar d'Arlot de Saint-Saud, Paul Labrouche, Luis Suárez and François Salles; the easiest route, graded not very difficult, starts from the Jou de Cerredo and requires no climbing gear except on a final short stretch of easy scrambling. It rises above the valley of Valdeón, one of the two León gateways to the national park. Photo: No machine-readable author provided. Davidphase assumed (based on copyright claims).
