Nicanores of Boñar (pastry) Food and drink · Boñar, La Montaña de Riaño, León Extremely fine, crisp puff pastries dusted with sugar that are the town's signature sweet; they share the table with the tarta de truchas and the cravates, the traditional pastries of the Porma valley. They were created in 1880, when the pastry-maker Nicanor Rodríguez González opened a workshop in Boñar and began making these sweets of puff pastry, wheat flour, butter and egg, cut with a daisy-shaped mould. At first they were called hojaldras, but the fame they achieved meant that over time they came to be known as nicanores, in honour of their creator.
