On the plateau of El Palacio a castro (fortified Iron Age settlement) of the Second Iron Age, a medieval fortress with moat and cistern from the mid-12th century and a palace of around 1400 are superimposed. It was declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico (Spain's heritage designation in force between 1931 and 1985) on 22 April 1949.
