Charter of Castropodame

Historical milestone · Castropodame, El Bierzo, León

Image of Castropodame, not of the place itself.

Alfonso IX of León granted the town its own charter as soon as his reign began, recording it in the document with the spelling Castor podiamo. The first written mention of the place is earlier still and goes back to the year 970.
