The Monastery of Santa María de La Vid Monument · La Vid y Barrios, Ribera del Duero, Burgos Founded in the 12th century on the banks of the Duero, at the place where, according to local tradition, the image of the Virgen de la Vid was found — the Gothic carving venerated today in the church is, however, later — the monastery was born Premonstratensian and today belongs to the Augustinians, who count it among their most important centres in Spain. It preserves a church, a cloister and a library of old holdings open to the friars themselves, to researchers, and to anyone who can show a legitimate interest, upon prior request to the father librarian. It remains inhabited by a religious community, integrated since 2000 into the Augustinian province of San Juan de Sahagún, and is the monumental landmark of the upper Duero in Burgos province.
