Castle of Virtus Monument · Valle de Valdebezana, Las Merindades, Burgos Virtus Castle, also called the castle of the Porras or Porres family, stands in the village of Virtus, in the province of Burgos, part of the municipality of Valle de Valdebezana. It received generic protection, along with the rest of Spain's castles, under a decree of 22 April 1949, and today holds the status of Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection). It thus watches over one of the nineteen villages of a municipality set in a territory with a Cantabrian presence documented since the Iron Age, whose mountains once supplied timber to the Real Fábrica de La Cavada.
