The castle of the Rojas family Monument · Poza de la Sal, La Bureba, Burgos A castle situated atop a hill at whose foot Poza de la Sal (Burgos) lies, protected by the 1949 decree on Spanish castles. In the late 9th century Count Diego Rodríguez Porcelos repopulated Poza and built the castle to defend the new territory, in the same period in which the castle of Pancorbo was raised and Burgos was founded. In the 14th century the Rodríguez de Rojas family built the present castle over that first one, and its walls left the town completely protected. Restored in 1808 by the French troops, it served as a prison for ambassadors of the Clementine League in 1528 and withstood continuous attacks by garrisons from Burgos until the end of the War of Independence.
