The hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Valle Monument · Monasterio de Rodilla, La Bureba, Burgos The hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Valle is a temple in ogival Romanesque style, with Byzantine influence, built on the ruins of the vanished monastery that gives it its name, in the district of Santa Marina, upstream from the village of Monasterio de Rodilla, in a spot surrounded by mountains. The original cenoby dates from the second half of the 12th century, around the year 1170; despite its age, it is well preserved. With three bays, a semicircular apse, decorative arcades and a square tower, it is considered one of the finest examples of Romanesque basilica preserved in Spain and a unique architectural example in the country for its style. It was declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) on 3 June 1931. Photo: Rowanwindwhistler (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Monasterio de Rodilla
