Main altarpiece of the Assumption of La Puebla de Arganzón Curiosity · La Puebla de Arganzón, Ebro, Burgos The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, in late Gothic style, was built between the 14th and 15th centuries and was remodelled several times in the following centuries; it has a Baroque tower and two doorways, one facing the square, from the 15th century, and another, more modern one next to the tower. Its interior, a single nave divided into four bays with elegant ribbed vaults, houses several side chapels, one of them with the Renaissance funerary pantheon of the Gordejuela family. The most spectacular piece in the temple is its Renaissance high altarpiece, dated to around 1535 and attributed to the Castilian workshop of Gaspar de Tordesillas, with Plateresque motifs and imposing proportions, an unexpected ensemble in such a small town. The building has been protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1991. Photo: Zarateman (CC0) What to see and do in La Puebla de Arganzón
