The Úzquiza reservoir Nature · Villasur de Herreros, Burgos (Alfoz), Burgos The dam, also known as the second Arlanzón reservoir, closes off the river in its upper reach, at the foot of the Sierra de la Demanda, in the municipality of Villasur de Herreros, and supplies water to the city of Burgos. It takes its name from Úzquiza, the settlement that, together with Herramel and Villorobe, was submerged under its waters in 1986; the dam entered service in 1989, and its reservoir, with a capacity of 75 hm³ and an area of 313 hectares, is used for water supply, irrigation and electricity production. Its waters, surrounded by oak groves and pine forests, are a wintering ground for waterfowl. Photo: Thomas Holbach (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Villasur de Herreros
