Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Adanero Monument · Adanero, La Moraña, Ávila Over an earlier 13th-century Romanesque-Mudéjar church, of which two round brick arches survive in the present chancel, work on the church we see today began in 1563 and was not completed until 1584, with an almost total renovation of the naves and the tower, set on the north face and topped with a Herrerian-style spire. The interior, with three naves separated by columns with arches decorated with polychrome rosettes, is covered by an artesonado ceiling with Renaissance motifs. In the last years of the 17th century the transept area was remodelled, with a dome of Baroque stuccowork and the arms of the Comital House on the pendentives, and in 1794 the present façade was raised, inspired by a Herrerian-style bell-gable. It has been a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1998. Photo: No machine-readable author provided. Alsaca assumed (based on copyright claims).
