Church of San Esteban Protomártir Monument · San Esteban del Valle, Arenas de San Pedro, Ávila An Isabelline Gothic church built between the late 15th century and the early 16th, with a single rectangular nave narrowed by a polygonal apse, three ribbed vaults and a 22-metre bell tower. It has a notable Renaissance portal and, inside, a hexagonal wrought-iron Plateresque pulpit and a screen of the same material separating the main chapel from the rest of the nave. It preserves the font where St Peter Baptist was baptized, one of the village's patron saints along with St Stephen. Belonging to the diocese of Ávila, it was declared a Monumento Histórico-Artístico (a former Spanish heritage-protection category, precursor to the BIC) by Royal Decree of 15 October 1982.
