Sartajada, the Village of the Botijos Curiosity · Sartajada, Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo Image of Sartajada, not of the place itself. Sartajada is a small municipality in the province of Toledo, in the Tiétar valley, next to the Sierra de San Vicente and bordering Ávila; the river Tiétar waters its territory to the north. Today it has just over a hundred inhabitants, after heavy rural depopulation. It was known throughout the district for its pottery, a traditional activity that earned it the nickname of the village of the botijos, and which is documented in the study Los últimos alfareros de Sartajada (2012), although production has now disappeared. It retains the parish church of Santiago Apóstol, a bridge of Roman-medieval origin and traditional stone houses with Arab tiles, some dating from the 18th century.
