The Ávila-origin resettlement of the sierra

Historical milestone · Almendral de la Cañada, Sierra de San Vicente, Toledo

Image of Almendral de la Cañada, not of the place itself.

A good part of these towns was resettled in the thirteenth century with peasants who came from the land of Ávila, and not from Toledo. Hence the speech, the stone architecture and the festivities of the sierra have more of Old Castile than of La Mancha.
