Dehesa del Castañar Nature · Mazarambroz, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Image of Mazarambroz, not of the place itself. The dehesa del Castañar, on the foothills of the Montes de Toledo within the municipality of Mazarambroz, covers 142.43 km², almost two-thirds of the municipal area, and is home to endangered species such as the Spanish imperial eagle and the Iberian lynx. To the south rises the sierra del Castañar, with the Pico Amor, at 1380 metres the third-highest peak in the province of Toledo, among other summits. Almost its entire area is covered in forest, the last remnant of the woodland that once covered the whole district. Already mentioned in Alfonso XI's Libro de la Montería as a mountain of bear and wild boar, it belonged to the Order of the Temple until its dissolution in 1309 and was jointly exploited by fourteen municipalities grouped in the Brotherhood of San Martín de la Montiña.
