Hermitage of los Cristos y museo de Juan Correa de Vivar Monument · Mascaraque, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Image of Mascaraque, not of the place itself. A restored hermitage housing a museum space dedicated to the Renaissance painter Juan Correa de Vivar, a native of the town. Correa de Vivar was born around 1510 in Mascaraque, where his family owned a house and lands, although he always resided in Toledo, the city where he trained in the workshop of Juan de Borgoña and developed his career. He never married and, being a religious man, left his soul as heir to his estate, devoting it to works of charity, masses and the founding of a chaplaincy perpetuated in the church of Mascaraque, whose first beneficiary was his nephew Rodrigo de Vivar. He died in Toledo on 16 April 1566 and, as he had directed, was buried in Mascaraque, in the same tomb as his parents. Photo: Own work (CC BY-SA 3.0) What to see and do in Mascaraque
