Castle of Mascaraque Monument · Mascaraque, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Fortified house and palace of the Padilla family built in the 14th century, combining a defensive function with that of a seigneurial residence, next to the parish church of Mascaraque. Of Islamic origin, it retains a keep at the north-west corner with three carved Seals of Solomon, three circular towers at the corners and rubble-stone walls with ashlar. Rebuilt between 1980 and 1985 by José Manuel Sierra Frade after centuries of neglect, it recovered its medieval appearance using stone from the quarries of Las Ventas con Peña Aguilera. It later belonged to the Dukes of Abrantes and to the Marquis of Navamorcuende. Also known as the castle of Juan de Padilla, it still retains vaults of Moorish tradition and the appearance it must have had in the 15th century.
