Palace of los Condes de Mora Monument · Layos, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Fortified palace in Layos (Toledo), also known as the Palace of the Counts of Mora, dating from the late 14th and early 15th centuries, though with successive renovations: the Mudéjar interior is from the 16th century, and much of the outer enclosure from the 17th. Made up of the palace, a garden and service quarters within a walled precinct, it is a square building with towers at the corners, one of them circular, and preserves from its original fabric the stone doorway and a mullioned window with twin arches and interlaced strapwork. It belonged to the adelantados of Cazorla, passed to the counts of Fuensalida and, from 1509, to the counts of Mora, among whose residents was Empress Eugénie de Montijo. Declared a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) in 1991. Photo: Carmen Martín Tejeda (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Layos
