Chueca, a place name of Arabic origin Curiosity · Chueca, Montes de Toledo, Toledo Image of Chueca, not of the place itself. The name of the municipality comes from the Arabic suwayka, a diminutive of suq (souk, small market), and reflects its origin as a seasonal settlement where the Mozarabs of Toledo would gather at harvest time. In the 12th century the place is documented as Assueca, and in Mozarabic texts with the variant Choca; the first mention as a rural settlement dates from 1199. The small market that gave the place its name eventually became its definitive toponym, a testimony to its Andalusi origin. Photo: Rodelar (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Chueca
