A surviving tower of the old castle of Higares, located in the municipal district of Mocejón beside the vega of the Tagus; today the tower appears attached to a present-day house. In 1189 the nobleman Rodrigo Gutiérrez Girón, holder (tenente) of the castle, bequeathed it in his will, together with its lands, to the bishop of Toledo and the cathedral chapter, which places the origin of this fortress in the 12th century.
