Pedro Ibáñez de Vargas, founder of Bargas

Tradition attributes the founding of Bargas to Pedro Ibáñez de Vargas, a knight of the Casa de Vargas who in the 11th century accompanied King Alfonso VI in the conquest of Toledo in 1085, where he was well rewarded with land. A short distance from the city he founded a place that took his name, Bargas, which became the original seat of the Vargas lineage of Toledo. He was the son of Iván de Vargas and father of Fernán Pérez de Vargas, who succeeded him at the head of the family estate (mayorazgo).
