The church of San Esteban Protomártir stands in the very center of the historic quarter of Bargas, being the main architectural monument of the town. The building reflects three centuries of history in its construction: it shows the features of the religious architecture directed by Toledan master builders in the service of the Archbishopric during the 16th and 17th centuries, although it retains a brick tower from the late 15th or early 16th century, with small windows of Mudejar reminiscence, and a pilastered bell tower already from the 16th century, all within the classicist canons of Toledan tradition.
