The donation of Alfonso VIII

The town appears in 1199, when Alfonso VIII and his wife Leonor granted it away. It was refounded on its present site in 1213 by Archbishop Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada and obtained the title of villa in 1590, under Felipe II.
