Castle of Peñas Negras Monument · Mora, La Mancha de Toledo, Toledo A fortress of Muslim origin built in the 10th century under Umayyad rule, three kilometres east of Mora, in the region of La Mancha de Toledo. It was a strategic frontier stronghold during the Reconquista and, after the Christian conquest, was rebuilt and adapted to new military needs. Today it survives in ruins: remains of the walls, the keep and several cisterns are still standing. In 2020 it was included on the Lista Roja del Patrimonio (a list of heritage sites at risk) due to the danger of collapse, and public access is limited to the areas considered safe.
