In 1312 Diego Muñiz, master of the Order of Santiago, granted Corral de Almaguer the privilege of town status, and in 1342 King Alfonso XI granted it two annual fairs, one for San Andrés and another for San Felipe y Santiago. The town, in the region of La Mancha de Toledo, reached its peak population in 1950, with 8,603 inhabitants, a figure that later declined with the rural exodus characteristic of the region.
