Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción de Corral de Almaguer Monument · Corral de Almaguer, La Mancha de Toledo, Toledo The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, in Corral de Almaguer, holds the status of Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) and its founding is believed to possibly date from the 11th century, when the Order of Santiago built numerous churches in the region. It consists of three naves divided into six bays, a larger transept bay and six chapels arranged irregularly. The main altar features a notable Baroque altarpiece with Solomonic columns presided over by a large canvas of the Assumption of the Virgin, and the organ case, polychrome though deteriorated, also stands out. The main portal, on the south side, is a notable example of Toledan Plateresque. It was declared a historic-artistic monument on 29 December 1981, by royal decree published in the BOE in 1982.
