Espinoso del Rey, a Town since 1579

Espinoso del Rey (La Jara, Toledo) belonged to the jurisdiction of Talavera de la Reina from the reign of Ferdinand III, who granted that town all the land between Toledo and Trujillo. The town did not achieve independence until 14 August 1579, the date on which it obtained the title of villa; after emancipation it came to be governed by the Santa Hermandad Vieja de Talavera.
