The Función de Mayo, Valdeverdeja's main festivity in honour of its patron saint the Virgen de los Desamparados, is held on the first Sunday of May with a pilgrimage that carries the image from the church to its hermitage. There an auction is held to decide who will lift the Virgin onto her throne, and the day continues with meals and recreational activities next to the hermitage, enlivened by music.
