The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, in Valdeverdeja (La Campana de Oropesa district, Toledo), is an 18th-century building erected over an earlier one from the 12th century, and preserves a calvary of some importance. It is the centre of the Función de Mayo, held on the first Sunday of May in honour of the town's patron saint: a procession carries the image from the church to the hermitage, where the privilege of lifting the Virgin onto her throne is auctioned off; afterwards, residents share a meal at the nearby picnic area, with games and live music.
