What to see and do in Setiles

Setiles
Village
Setiles is a municipality of the Señorío de Molina, in Guadalajara, with 78 inhabitants in 2025 and 56.77 km², where iron was already being extracted and forged in Celtiberian, Roman and Andalusi times. In 1903 the Basque businessmen Eduardo Aznar and Ramón de la Sota founded the Compañía Minera de Sierra Menera, with 1,400 hectares of open-cast iron between Setiles and Ojos Negros, whose ore left by railway for Sagunto; the miners' wages were low, and many supplemented their income with farm work. The mine closed in 1990, after 87 years, when the blast furnaces of Sagunto shut down. It preserves La Casa Grande, today the town hall, and the fortified house of the Malo de Marcilla family, a 15th-century tower house. Its patronal festivals are celebrated on the first Sunday of October.
