Church of San Julián y Santa Basilisa de Torrejón del Rey Monument · Torrejón del Rey, La Campiña, Guadalajara The church of San Julián y Santa Basilisa, a Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection) since 1996, is the main monument of Torrejón del Rey. Its construction began in the early 16th century, adjoining an older bell tower, originally a Muslim watchtower rebuilt in Mudéjar style in the mid or late 14th century. The church has a single rectangular nave of rammed earth and brick, and a polygonal apse with three blind semicircular arches. The current door, in the west wall, was built between 1540 and 1543 by Pedro de la Bodega, while the original façade of the south wall was sacrificed in the early 20th century for the parish house. The complex has undergone numerous renovations. Photo: Geolocal Solutions, on Flickr (CC BY 2.0) What to see and do in Torrejón del Rey
