The added name of Albatages

The municipality's official name incorporated the surname Albatages in 1916, with that year's reform of municipal nomenclature; before that it was simply called Fuentelahiguera, a locality documented since the 14th century. Local legend has it that, more than two centuries ago, between Usanos and present-day Fuentelahiguera there was a village called Albatages that, so it is said, was devoured by termites.
