Villahermosa de Alovera Curiosity · Alovera, La Campiña, Guadalajara Image of Alovera, not of the place itself. On 30 January 1626 King Philip IV granted Alovera, in the district of La Campiña in Guadalajara, the title of town under the name of Villahermosa de Alovera, separating it from the jurisdiction of Guadalajara. The monarch immediately sold the new town to Lorenza de Sotomayor for 6,525,000 maravedís, who thus became the first Marquise of Villahermosa, with the right to collect tributes and appoint the mayor. The marquisate still exists today in the hands of a family from Madrid, though now without those privileges. Photo: Eclipsis Proteo (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Alovera
