One of the smallest municipalities in Cuenca Curiosity · Casas de Guijarro, La Manchuela Conquense, Cuenca Image of Casas de Guijarro, not of the place itself. With barely 8.20 square kilometres and just over a hundred inhabitants, Casas de Guijarro is one of the smallest municipalities by area in the province of Cuenca. In the mid-19th century it had 210 inhabitants, and Madoz's dictionary described it as set upon a rise he called “a balcony with a wall,” surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. It belongs to the La Mancha Designation of Origin (DO), and preserves the church of the Holy Name of Jesus, with a wrought-iron lamp made by local resident Emiliano de la Casa Mondéjar. On the outskirts grow eight centuries-old pines, and three kilometres away there is a pine wood known for its sunsets. Photo: Rodelar (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Casas de Guijarro
