Festivities of la Virgen de la Loma

Patron saint festivities of Campillo de Altobuey in honour of the Virgen de la Loma, whose feast day is celebrated on 8 September. According to tradition, the Virgin appeared to a traveller at the spot where the former convent of San Agustín, now its sanctuary, stands today; the image is carried there during the novena before the festival, but owing to its distance from the town it has been decided that it should remain for most of the year in the parish church of San Andrés, in the centre of the village. During these days the population of the municipality can double with the arrival of visitors from neighbouring districts.
