A village in the Libro de la Montería Curiosity · Cabezarrubias del Puerto, Valle de Alcudia, Ciudad Real Image of Cabezarrubias del Puerto, not of the place itself. The Sierra de Cabezas Rubias is already mentioned in the 14th century in the Libro de la Montería (Book of the Hunt) of Alfonso XI, as one of the royal hunting grounds of the Sierra Morena; in fact, this mention is the first documentary evidence of the existence of Cabezarrubias del Puerto as a settlement. The range was known for its abundance of brown bears, whose hunting was the main economic activity around the ermita de San Gabriel (San Gabriel hermitage) during the 16th century.
