Castle of Montizón Monument · Villamanrique, Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real Fortress built by the Order of Santiago in the municipal area of Villamanrique, at a strategic point on the Reconquest frontier on the Guadalén river. Given its structure, it is believed to have been of Christian construction, since during the Muslim period the watch over this pass belonged to the nearby castle of Ibn Xoray, now in ruins. The poet Jorge Manrique went on to become commander of Montizón. The castle, privately owned, is well preserved and was declared a national historical-artistic monument in 1983, today holding the category of Bien de Interés Cultural (Spain's highest level of heritage protection).
