Saint Thomas of Villanueva, son of Fuenllana Curiosity · Fuenllana, Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real Image of Fuenllana, not of the place itself. Fuenllana (Ciudad Real) claims to be the birthplace of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, Augustinian archbishop born at the end of 1486; according to his biography, his parents took refuge, fleeing a plague epidemic, at Casa Valdés, between Villanueva de los Infantes and Fuenllana, where his maternal grandparents lived, and the child was baptised in the parish of Fuenllana. In the 17th century a convent was built in the village on the site traditionally pointed to as his birth house. Fuenllana was also the birthplace of the philosopher Antonio Rodríguez Huéscar, a disciple of José Ortega y Gasset. Photo: Fuenllanarq (CC BY-SA 4.0) What to see and do in Fuenllana
