Church of Santa Catalina de Carrizosa Monument · Carrizosa, Campo de Montiel, Ciudad Real Image of Carrizosa, not of the place itself. The Iglesia de Santa Catalina is the parish church of Carrizosa, in the Campo de Montiel (Ciudad Real), completed in 1493. The original structure consisted of a single nave on four ashlar stone arches, roofed with white pine wood and reed, with the cemetery adjoining on the west side. Inside it preserves frescoes painted in 1942 by Jesús Velasco Espinosa, with scenes such as the ascension into heaven of Santa Catalina, the four evangelists accompanied by their symbolic animals, the Last Supper, and Jesus as a shepherd. In the first decade of the 2000s the paintings underwent a controversial restoration, which damaged part of the original work.
