Castle of Taibilla Monument · Nerpio, Sierra del Segura, Albacete The Castillo de Taibilla stands at around 1,200 metres of altitude, on a cliff above the river of the same name, within the hamlet that takes its name from it, in the municipality of Nerpio (Albacete). It is already mentioned in 12th-century texts as the fortress of Tayviella. At the foot of the hill stands the casa fuerte, of Arab origin and today a remodelled manor house, which controlled access to the fortress; the outer wall on the south and west sides retains the wall-walk with battlements and arrow slits, and the keep stands out, which had four storeys and a cistern to collect rainwater, recently restored. Its importance was key to watching over the Kingdom of Granada, a task entrusted to the Order of Santiago from 1242 until the conquest of Granada in 1492.
